Hello World!!!!
Me? Blogging?! Seriously?! Those who know me know I dislike writing so the fact that I am starting a blog is MONUMENTAL!!!
This blog is MY canvas- a medium to get everything that's inside of me out. I really feel like I have found something I truly enjoy and can see myself doing every day of my life and that is INTERIOR DESIGN. I have reached the point in my life when I sincerely feel like I have 1 of 2 choices- to design or die (not literally, figuratively-I'm not that morbid TRUST-haha)
The purpose of Design or DYE is a kind of a diary of my experiences as I jump into this field. It will be a chronicle of the things I learn, people I meet, things I see and do, etc. I want this to be a resource for others as well as myself. When I first became interested in Interior Design I looked for such a resource and found none, so as a great Pixar movie (Robots) says- "see a need, fill a
need"- and that's what I'm setting out to do.
So my back story is this... Since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to work in medicine. I enjoyed helping those in need and learning about the human body (we really are fascinatingly engineered beings). I had been grooming myself to be in the medical field since middle school and by the time I reached high school I had found my niche- sports medicine. I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD, GO HEELS!!!), got into their grueling Athletic Training program and excelled, but by my junior year I was burned out and utterly miserable.
During college I really blossomed into a different person. I was on my own, in a new environment, as well as pledging my sorority -all of these factors changed me and gave me the courage to find my true self. I realized working in the healthcare sector made me feel stifled, sequestered, and unhappy. I needed something that afforded me the opportunities to change (often), travel, and express myself creatively. After much soul searching and trial and error, I landed on Interior Design! It was actually something I had enjoyed doing since childhood. Being a military brat who was forced to move every few years, I was always redecorating. The most exciting part about moving was going somewhere new and being able to express who I was at the time through the presentation of my room. Fast forward to the present time --> I'm changing careers and diving head first into Interior Design :)
